NACAM clubs take proactive approach
Several FIA member clubs from the NACAM region have taken a proactive approach, looking beyond the current Covid-19 crisis as well as planning to build the foundations for a brighter future of motor sport at national level.
The Automóvil Club de Guatemala (ACG) undertook immediate actions to mitigate main problems, such as health of the staff, financial security of the club and the continuity of the sport when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country back in March.
In order to ensure the continuity of the sport, the club employed several social media strategies to maintain the communications between drivers, sponsors and keep them connected with the fans. The action moved from real-life competition to the web and took the shape of social media posts, interviews and online forum discussions, all to keep the country’s motor sport community together.
A Digital Motor Sport Competition was also launched, with several categories created, including competitions for children as well as adults, separating real-life drivers and sim racers.
The competition offers attractive prices, ranging from karting and driving experiences at a local race track for sim racers and day passes for real-life drivers.
In order to be ready, when the local government lifts the restrictions, the club has developedsanitary protocols according to the World Health Organization recommendations for sporting events.
Belize eyes FIA Motorsport Games
The Belize Automobile Club’s (BAC) continues to focus on grassroots motor sport and is preparing a new generation of sport’s adepts by developing structure and rules that should result in the growth of the country’s motor sport culture in the years to come.
Slalom is one of the disciplines the BAC focuses on as the discipline provides an accessible platform to grow motor sport locally. The club is also active in the field of drag racing.
“The Belize Automobile Club has verbally agreed with an investor the building of a karting track in the middle of the country where it is best suited for all. We have begun searching for a decent acreage for this track to be built on,” said BAC President Victor Murga.
“The sport and the club here is not as big as in the other countries where the sport has had 100 years of development or history but we are trying our best to take the sport forward in whatever way we can.
“Furthermore our collaboration with OMDAI FIA México continues to progress with two-three future Regional Training Programmes to train our officials, drivers, and medical team.”
“We hope to be able to compete in the next FIA Motorsport Games held atCircuit Paul Ricard,” he concluded.
