ETRC - 2018 Race of Slovakia - Race 1 & 2

Race 1

Antonio Albacete took his second FIA European Truck Racing Championship victory of the season at Slovakia Ring today after a clinical win in his Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN.

The Spaniard withstood pressure from Jochen Hahn’s IVECO in the first phase of the race to secure his second win at the Slovakia Ring venue in as many years.

Albacete took the chequered flag 1.087-seconds ahead of Hahn who dropped back slightly after failing to find a way through during the action-packed 8-lap race.

Polesitter Adam Lacko got a poor start and was swamped by the chasing pack heading in to the first corner allowing Albacete and Hahn in to first and second places respectively. The Czech also lost out to Sascha Lenz who also squeezed through to third position.

Lacko though hunted down Lenz and re-claimed the final podium position on the final lap and Norbert Kiss (Tankpool24 Mercedes-Benz) also cleared Lenz to take fourth position during a thrilling finale in which he lost a good proportion of his front bodywork!

Race 2

British racer Shane Brereton took his second career FIA European Truck Racing Championship victory in the semi-reversed grid race held at Slovakia Ring on Saturday afternoon.

After finishing eighth in the first race, Brereton, who also sits atop the standings in the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP, found himself on pole for the second event of the day.

The British then took a lights-to-flag victory, staying away from some opening lap chaos and resisting pressure from the back.

Jochen Hahn, who started all the way back in seventh position, capitalised on the first lap shake-out that featured Adam Lacko and Andre Kursim going through the gravel on the outside of the first turn. The Team Hahn Racing driver was initially running fourth but started to climb up the order as the race unfolded, dealing first with Sascha Lenz and later with Rene Reinert.

Reinert, aboard his Team Reinert Racing MAN completed the podium, maintaining his starting position and adding to his 2018 points haul.

Norbert Kiss brought his Team Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz truck come in fourth overall, mirroring his race one result. The Hungarian executed a late challenge on Sascha Lenz who finished fifth aboard his self-run SL Trucksport MAN.

Race 1 winner Antonio Albacete had an rather uneventful race in his Trucksport Lutz Bernau MAN and finished sixth, having started in eighth position.
