F3 - Double pole for Lance Stroll at Red Bull Ring

Starting grid race two
Like first qualifying, the outcome of second qualifying was also decided in the closing stages. Lance Stroll (1:23.178 minutes) moved up into first place and thus scored his third pole position of the season. Only 0.002 seconds down on the Geneva-based teenager, George Russell (1:23.180 minutes) secured second place. Callum Ilott (1:23.274 minutes) in third place was also less than one tenth of a second down on the time of Lance Stroll as the fastest youngster.
Honours for the best-placed rookie went to Finnish Red Bull junior driver Niko Kari (1:23.300 minutes), who outpaced the second-fastest rookie David Beckmann (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport, 1:23.305 minutes) by 0.005 seconds. For Beckmann, who only made his FIA Formula 3 European Championship debut at Pau one week ago, this is the best qualifying result of his Formula 3 career to date. Sérgio Sette Câmara (Motopark, 1:23.327 minutes), like Kari a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, ended up sixth in qualifying from Maximilian Günther (Prema Powerteam, 1:23.339 minutes), Ralf Aron (1:23.359 minutes), Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport, 1:23.373 minutes) and Joel Eriksson (Motopark, 1:23.439 minutes).
Starting grid race three
In the ranking of the second-fastest laps, used to determine the starting grid positions for the third race of the weekend, Lance Stroll (1:23.240 minutes) again came out on top, bringing his season total to four pole positions. Behind Callum Ilott (1:23.319 minutes), a trio of rookie drivers followed with Niko Kari (1:23.439 minutes) from Ralf Aron (1:23.441 minutes) and David Beckmann (1:23.448 minutes). George Russell (1:23.479 minutes), Maximilian Günther (1:23.498 minutes), Joel Eriksson (1:23.645 minutes), Ben Barnicoat (HitechGP, 1:23.707 minutes) and Mikkel Jensen (1:23.742 minutes) rounded out the top ten.
Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam): “It really was a good qualifying for me and my car was very good, too. Initially, it was a bit nerve-wrecking because I was stuck in traffic and couldn’t find a clear lap. I then drove through the pit lane once again to improve my track position, which I managed to do. On the last few laps, I did some quite decent lap times as well. Even though I liked the rain at Pau a week ago, I have to say that it was slightly easier at a dry track here.”
