INTERESTING FACTS
In 2014, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship made its first appearance at the Hungaroring and now, after a one-year break, the series is back at the racetrack located not far from Hungary’s capital Budapest. As none of the drivers in the current field were on the grid two years ago, the 4.381-kilometre circuit is new territory for all of them. But the drivers will already have a chance to get adjusted to the track with a one-day in-season test scheduled for Wednesday just before the race weekend.
The Hungaroring circuit is located 20 kilometres north of Budapest. The venue itself lies in a natural bowl, allowing for excellent spectator views from almost any point. The circuit was newly constructed for the first Formula 1 race in 1986 and building work was completed in only eight months. While the circuit had obtained the reputation of not being conducive to passing, changes to the first and the last corner in 2003 made a difference now allowing for more overtaking. The circuit features 14 turns in total, most of which are relatively low-speed.
The close proximity to Hungary’s capital Budapest gives fans the opportunity to not only enjoy racing, but also to explore the city centre’s attractions.
