The new bus has an autonomy of 350 kilometers and can be fully charged in 4 hours. This means that it can make three complete journeys during the day. It has USB chargers, air conditioning, security cameras and Wi-Fi.

“The new bus system is a step forward for the citizens of Lima”, said Pablo Azorín, Head of Road Safety and Environment at FIA Region IV. “This initiative will contribute towards achieving Region IV’s sustainable mobility goals and we are very excited to see how this will impact the city”.

Thanks to an agreement between the Lima municipality and the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP), and in collaboration with the Enel electricity company, the new bus has been launched as part of a pilot project to study the possibility of introducing more electric buses into the Peruvian urban transport system.

Although from the operators' side the initial investment is a little higher than that of a traditional bus, maintenance costs are very low. Therefore, the money needed for their use is also lower. "The cost of fuel is reduced to one tenth", explained José Manuel Revuelta, Country Manager of Enel Peru. “The initial investment is recovered in about six or seven years", he continued.

Mayor of Lima Jorge Muñoz said that having this electric bus "is a first step to improve transport in our city and contribute to the care of the environment.”
