Gathering FIA Mobility Regions III and IV Clubs from all over the Americas, the two-day training session aimed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle key road safety challenges and drive positive change.

Announced in August 2024 at the FIA American Congress, the Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life programme is the result of a partnership between the FIA, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the FIA Foundation.

It is a global initiative aiming to give FIA Clubs and relevant local authorities the tools they need to improve road safety locally and nationally. This includes support with decision-making, design, and implementation of effective strategies, policies and regulatory frameworks.

The programme relies on three pillars:

  • Training sessions that aim to build our Clubs’ professional capacity and expertise in road safety
  • In country projects involving local stakeholders to drive effective change
  • A fellowship community – to promote experience sharing and build a real global community of best practice.

The first training session of the programme held in Panama was developed in partnership with UNITAR and Delft Road Safety Courses. It gathered 15 participants representing 11 countries of the FIA Mobility Regions III and IV, and representatives from partner organisations the FIA Foundation, UNITAR, and Delft Road Safety courses.

Director of Road Safety and Global Advocacy Stefano Ammirati, said: “We were delighted to host our first Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life training here in Panama. Together with UNITAR and the FIA Foundation, we are committed to empowering our Clubs to lead the way and drive safer mobility futures for their communities. This is a key part of our work here at the FIA, and something we look forward to expanding further over the coming year.”

FIA Region IV President Ricardo Morales Rubio said: “Improving road safety outcomes is an essential part of my work as President of FIA Region IV. With the Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life programme, I look forward to driving measurable change and contributing to making Latin America an exemplar for good road safety policy and practice, while building collaborative synergies with governments.”

FIA Region III President Frank Fotia said: “The Safe Mobility 4 All and 4 Life programme is a great opportunity for our Clubs to foster measurable change to make our roads safer and save lives. By enhancing their professional capacity and advocacy skills, it will be a key initiative in helping us achieve our shared goal to improve road safety for all.”

SM4A4L will be expanded across other regions heading into 2025.
