GT Asia Series - Rounds 5&6 Preview
Specially modified Corvette for Aoki and Tsuruta in the GT Asia Series in Fuji
GT Asia Series is proud to announce the addition of team Dijon Racing with Takuma Aoki and Kazuya Tsuruta for Round 5 & 6 held at the Fuji International Circuit next weekend.
Aoki is a notable driver in Japan who started his career in bike racing in 1993. From 1994 to 1996, he competed in the World Superbike Championship and returned the next year to compete with Honda, finishing 5th in the Championship.
After a freak accident in 1998 caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down, he became involved with Honda to develop cars for the disabled. He then started racing again, this time in cars, competing in notable races such as the Dakar Rally, Asia Cross Country Rally and in 2010 he started racing in Super Taikyu. Aoki doesn’t just race, he races to win, his most notable race so far was the 2012 Super Taikyu where he finished on the podium in third.
Aoki will partner Kazuya Tsuruta, a young driver who has competed in the Super Taikyu for the past two years. The 29 year old driver’s most recent achievemen was coming in second during Round 2 of the Series.
It will be the first time the duo will be in the GT Asia Series and they will make their appearance in a specially modified Corvette Z06R GT3. The bright yellow machine will be one not to miss at the event.
The GT Asia Series continues at the Fuji International Circuit, as part of the Super Formula Series, from 12-14 July 2013.
