Adam Lacko was crowned 2017 FIA European Truck Racing champion at Jarama this afternoon, as the Buggyra International Racing System driver sealed his first ever title.

Adding to the party atmosphere, Antonio Albacete sent the large Jarama crowd wild as he took a fine victory in the first race of the weekend in his Truck Sport Lutz Bernau MAN.
It was a highly popular win, but this was no serene victory for the experienced Spaniard, as Lacko hounded him all the way to the chequered flag.
While Lacko took the runners-up position it was also enough for him to seal the 2017 FIA ETRC title, his first ever championship success in truck racing.

In the early stages of the race, Lacko’s title rival Jochen Hahn ran in fourth position behind the Czech’s teammate, David Vrsecky, who defended the position energetically.
But when Vrsecky was warned for potentially blocking reigning champion Jochen Hahn, the German capitalised and found a way through in his Hahn Racing run Iveco.
That position change meant that Lacko now has a 48 point advantage with just 40 to play for, meaning that Hahn is mathematically unable to challenge for the championship.

Race Two

David Vrsecky took his first win of the 2017 FIA European Truck Racing Championship campaign, after just holding off race one winner Antonio Albacete in race two.

Vrsecky took a well-deserved victory after soaking up huge pressure from local hero Antonio Albacete in a fascinating race which kept the large Spanish crowd on the edge of their seats.

The start of the race witnessed pole sitter Jose Rodrigues sprint away but soon there was drama as Portuguese left his braking way too late for the first turn and sailed in to the gravel trap. The furious Reboconorte driver re-joined in 13th position.

This handed a grateful David Vrsecky the lead in his Buggyra Freightliner, after the Czech made a meteoric start from fifth on the grid.

He held off a train of trucks which include Gerd Korber, Antonio Albacete, Andre Kursim, Jochen Hahn and Norbert Kiss in the early running. The Hungarian made an astonishing start from 16th position on the grid to run fifth by lap two.

The pacey Truck Sport Lutz Bernau-run Albacete soon cleared Korber and started to pressurise leader Vrsecky.
