WEC - Toyota Set Fastest Lap of Day One as Aston Martin Takes Top GTE Spot in FP2
Toyota continue to improve the times around the 4.5km Fuji Speedway, with Fernando Alonso lowering the best time of the day by nearly two seconds for the Japanese team.
Alonso set a1m23.973 lap, 1.095 seconds ahead of the no7 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050-Hybrid and 1.7 seconds ahead of the leading non hybrid car, the no3 Rebellion Racing R13-Gibson of Thomas Laurent. The no95 Aston Martin Racing Vantage set the fastest LMGTE time of the day with Nicki Thiim setting a 1m37.659 to finish the second Free Practice session of the 6 Hours of Fuji weekend at the top of the class time sheets. His time was nearly a second quicker than the fastest time in the morning session. The no67 Ford GT of Harry Tincknell was second fastest, the British driver 0.162s behind the leading car. The no71 AF Corse Ferrari F488 was third fastest ahead of the two Porsche 911s.
Newly confirmed 24 Hours of Le Mans winners Signatech Alpine were the quickest of the LMP2 runners with Andre Negrao setting the 1m30.410 lap, four tenths ahead of the two Jackie Chan DC Racing Orecas with the no38 ahead of the no37 by 0.1 seconds.
The two Dempesy-Proton Racing Porsches topped the LMGTE AM class with Matteo Cairoli in the no88 911 setting 1m38.989, 0.163s ahead of Matt Campbell in the no77 car.
The third Free Practice session will take place tomorrow morning at 09h30 (local) / 02h30 (CET) and will be extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes due to the time lost due to red flags in the first two sessions.
