South American Karting Championship 4-Stroke Edition Set to Drive Motorsport Development
The first South American Karting Championship for 4-stroke engines will take place from February 13 to 16, 2025, at the Autódromo Victor Borrat Fabini, El Pinar, Canelones, Uruguay. Hosted by the Automóvil Club del Uruguay (ACU), this inaugural event builds on the success of the South American Karting Championship for 2-stroke engines held in Brazil, further strengthening grassroots motorsport in the region.
The championship will feature six categories to ensure participation across various age groups and experience levels:
- CADET: Ages 8 to 12
- F4 JUNIOR: Ages 11 to 15
- F4 SENIOR: Ages 15 and above
- F4 MASTER: Ages 35 and above
- SHIFTER 200: Ages 15 and above
- SHIFTER 200 MASTER: Ages 35 and above
With 110 drivers from six countries—Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, and Peru—already confirmed, the event underscores the growing commitment to developing motorsport talent and infrastructure in South America.
Karting is widely recognised as a crucial entry point for aspiring drivers, providing essential skills and experience for progression in motorsport. The introduction of this championship is an important step toward expanding opportunities for drivers in the region and encouraging greater participation in the sport.
The event will serve as a platform to inspire future talent while also strengthening the motorsport ecosystem. The use of 4-stroke engines reflects a focus on accessibility and sustainability, aligning with broader goals for motorsport development.
