Sri Lanka (SL) was recovering from 30 years of civil war and the tourism was booming; but in 2019, a group of extremists bombed churches and five-star hotels in the Capital, Colombo. In 2020, the Covid pandemic made things worse. These aftermaths resulted in an economic downturn & SL declared bankruptcy. Many lost jobs and started going abroad to survive or seek greener pastures.  AA Ceylon (AAC) had the challenge of surviving without retrenching staff or compromising the services offered to its members. AAC turnaround by a strategic move and marketed  ‘International Driving Permit’ (IDP) to all prospective TGs.
