Knowledge-led federation: AA Tanzania hosts road safety training for ACTA
The project has been supported by the FIA Foundation and the FIA Safe and Sustainable Mobility Grants Programme.
FIA Member AA Tanzania has hosted a Delft Road Safety Course for African Council of Touring and Automobile Club (ACTA) members.
23 participants attended the three-day event in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania.
The course aimed to improve leaders’ understanding of road safety theory, so that they can apply it accurately within their own local context.
During the event, attendees learnt how to design, implement and advocate for safe journeys to school. Member Clubs were also given training on monitoring and evaluation, and advised on how to secure funding to support their own road safety initiatives (inspired by best practice from Botswana and Tanzania).
Attendees also had an opportunity to visit schools which had benefited from the FIA School Assessment Toolkit. The toolkit helps schools to understand and improve road safety infrastructure around their campuses, in preparation for an iRap Star Rating for Schools Assessment.
Speaking at the event, FIA Region I ACTA Sub Region President Simon Modisaemang said: “I would like to thank the FIA for listening to the concerns of ACTA Members, and for giving the group an opportunity to come together and address road safety concerns. This has been an engaging and informative experience, and I can already see a clear path to safer roads.”
