The FIA has held its first Road Safety Index trainings in the Americas.

Companies including CocaCola, FEMSA, AMBEV, Bimbo, Diana, CEMPRO, CBC, GRETEC, MAXA, SAFE Guatemala, Ingenio Santa Ana, and ASAZGUA, the Association of Sugar Producers of Guatemala, attended the first two sessions held in Guatemala, while key US-based organisations, such as 3M, Utsch and FRSG attended a third information session held at the WEC event in Austin, Texas, along with associations representing network of companies, such as NETS and NSC.

During the sessions, companies were introduced to the Index, which aims to help private sector organisations analyse their safety footprint and adjust their policy, principles and standards in accordance with best standards for health and occupational safety.

Jacob Bangsgaard, Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Tourism, said: “We are pleased to have held our first RSI trainings in the Americas. The methodology will help them to take better control of their safety footprint and progressively building a culture of safety to protect the safety of their employees and of the communities where they operate. These trainings will play a key role in the development and growth of this essential programme, both within the continent and beyond.”

Pedro Cofino, President of the Automobile Club of Guatemala, said: “The FIA Road Safety Index represents a good opportunity for our Club to engage with the private sector in Guatemala and offer a concrete solution to guide them in identifying safety gaps in their operations. It will help to improve road safety in our country.”

Several FIA Member Clubs have also expressed interest in the Index, and sessions are being developed to help Clubs and their respective partners.

The FIA Road Safety Index will be featured at the APRSO annual meeting, the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory, hosted by the Asian Development Bank in Tokyo on 8 and 9 October.
