Another heavy rain shower ahead of the second 25-minute race of the FIA Historic Formula 3 European Cup at Zandvoort gave the drivers a tyre choice dilemma on whether to use slicks or wets. With broken clouds on the horizon approaching fast it was a difficult choice and one that would ultimately decide the destination of the 2019 titles.

Reigning Historic Formula 3 European Cup Champion Christian Olsen won the first of the two 25-minute races at Zandvoort with a dominant display to finish over 14 seconds ahead of the rest of the field from pole position. The Class 1 victory was secured by Valerio Leone, the Italian fighting his way back up the field after starting the race in the pitlane. His son Davide looked on course to win the class but the engine in the back of his March 783 let go two laps from the chequered flag while lying in third overall.

This weekend twenty-nine historic F3 machines will take part in the second running of the FIA Historic Formula Three European Cup. Six manufacturers – Chevron, Dallara, GRD, March, Martini and Ralt – are represented at Zandvoort this weekend, with ten different variations over the ten-year period from 1974 to 1984.

Young Danish driver Christian Stubbe Olsen is the reigning FIA Historic Formula 3 European Cup champion after winning both races at Zandvoort in 2018 and is returning to defend his title in his Class 2 1983 Martini MK39.

The competitors taking part in the Rally Alpi Orientali Historic faced six special stages on day 2. At the end of the tenth and final stage the no302 Porsche 911 SC local drivers Lucio Da Zanche and Daniele De Luis was the overall winner, finishing 15 seconds ahead of the no301 Lancia Delta Integrale of ‘Lucky’ and Fabrizia Pons, the EHSRC entered car taking maximum Category 4 points in Italy.

The first day of the Rally Alpi Orientali Historic, Round 7 of the 2019 FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship, ended with the no302 Porsche 911 SC local drivers Lucio Da Zanche and Daniele De Luis leading overall by 18 seconds ahead of the no309 Porsche of Italian crew Marco Bertinotti and Andrea Rondi. The no301 Lancia Delta Integrale was the top EHSRC entered car with ‘Lucky’ and Fabrizia Pons finishing the day 21.2 seconds behind the leading Porsche after picking up a 10 second penalty for failure to check in on time.

The Graham family are well known on the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship. Ernie and Karen Graham are multiple Category 1 winners with their Ford Escort Twin Cam, while son Will is contesting Category 4 in a BMW E30 M3 for the first time in 2019. In Finland last month Will Graham secured his first Category 4 win on the Lahti Historic Rally.
