INTERESTING FACTS
In 2014, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship made its first appearance at the Hungaroring and after a one-year break, the series returned in 2016 for a one day test and a round as guest of the FIA WTCC. Earlier this year, the series kicked off the 2017 season with a two-day pre-season test at the racetrack located not far from Hungary’s capital Budapest. Now the fourth round of the championship will take place at Hungaroring, at the same time this race meeting is the first event on the DTM platform this year.
The Hungaroring circuit is located 20 kilometres north of Budapest. The venue itself lies in a natural bowl, allowing for excellent spectator views from almost any point. The circuit was newly constructed for the first Formula 1 race in 1986 and building work was completed in only eight months. While the circuit had obtained the reputation of not being conducive to passing, changes to the first and the last corner in 2003 made a difference now allowing for more overtaking. The circuit features 14 turns in total, most of which are relatively low-speed.
The close proximity to Hungary’s capital Budapest gives fans the opportunity to not only enjoy racing, but also to explore the city centre’s attractions.
