From 2013 to 2015 the FIA Formula 3 European Championship held two events at Hockenheim each year.

INTERESTING FACTS

The Hockenheimring is located just outside the town of Hockenheim, in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. The university city of Heidelberg is only about 20 kilometres away, while nearby larger cities are Frankfurt, about 100 kilometres to the north, and Stuttgart, slightly further and to the southeast.

Opened in May 1932 the original track was only used for a few years before the circuit was fundamentally changed in 1938. The track was modified and converted into its famous oval form and - at the same time - was made wider, so it became a true high-speed circuit.

In 2001, to increase safety and enhance the spectators’ experience, the track was significantly modified. A long, fast curve was built to connect the first and last straights, cutting off the long forest section and reducing the circuit length from nearly seven kilometres to four and a half. New stands increased capacity for spectators to 120,000.

This year Hockenheim represents a true season finale as none of the championships (team, driver or rookie) have been decided yet. Prema Powerteam is leading the team championship standings, however Carlin is still in the running for the title. Lando Norris (Carlin) finds himself in the best position to win the title of FIA F3 European Champion, but Maximilian Günther (Prema Powerteam) still has a small chance to beat him. Also, the battle for the rookie championship remains thrilling. With three races to go, Lando Norris and Jehan Daruvala (Carlin) can still claim this year’s title.
