Bahrain Motor Federation Hosts 14th Motorsport Medicine Seminar
On Monday, April 7, the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) hosted the 14th Motorsport Medicine Seminar at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, government hospitals, the National Ambulance, Royal Medical Services, and other partners supporting the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix. The seminar brought together more than 115 medical professionals from across Bahrain.

The seminar was officially opened by Dr. Raja Al-Yousef, Deputy CEO of Government Hospitals, together with representatives from the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Royal Medical Services, National Ambulance, and other leading health institutions.
This year’s edition gathered experts in motorsport medicine, emergency care, anesthesiology, and traumatology, with a focus on track safety, incident management, accident response, and the latest updates in pre-hospital care and critical patient transfers.
Interactive workshops offered hands-on training in emergency response techniques, including life-saving skills, spinal immobilisation, injured driver extraction from Formula One and closed racing cars, and safe helmet removal. These sessions ensured that medical teams are fully prepared to respond to any incident during a race weekend.
The programme featured a keynote address by BMF General Manager Mr. AbdulAziz Al-Thawadi, who emphasised: “Ensuring the highest standards of motorsport medical care is at the heart of our mission. This seminar equips our teams with the latest knowledge and practical skills to guarantee driver safety and excellence on track.”
Dr. Sean Petherbridge, FIA Medical Commission President, joined remotely from Geneva and highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing across borders.
The programme also featured a presentation from a cardiac electrophysiologist at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Heart Center on cardiovascular changes in race drivers, alongside more than 15 scientific presentations covering trauma care and injured driver resuscitation.
For the first time, the seminar was livestreamed globally, enabling participation from medical officials in Singapore, Australia, China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and beyond, under the coordination of Dr. Petherbridge.
