Automovíl Club de Guatemala (ACG) launches Mini Cup to promote motor sport at grassroots level
As part of its ongoing efforts to develop motor sport, the Automovíl Club de Guatemala (ACG) launched a Mini Cup series to promote grassroots categories and new drivers for the Auto National Championship.
The series was developed as initiative of one of the Mini Cooper Sport Clubs in Guatemala.
For a few years, track days have been organised at the local track, the Autódromo Pedro Cofiño, with the support of professional drivers. In 2022, thanks to the joint efforts of the local National Championship promoters, the Mini Club’s leaders and the drivers, ACG launched the Mini Cup series.
This cup is designed for Mini Cooper and gives them the chance to compete in a safe and controlled environment.
Besides promoting motor sport participation and gender equality, the goal of the Mini Cup is to grow at an international level and expand across all Central America Region.
So far, the series has been very successful, attracting over 25 cars per official event divided into different categories: Gran Turismo, Sport, Super Sport and Mini Girls.
Part of this success is due to an active leadership team who constantly seek new drivers and sponsors and strategically promote the event on social media.
The goals for 2023 include increasing participation, focusing on women, and developing the Cup among Central American Mini Cooper Clubs.
