WTCR - Race of Macau - Race 2 Press Conference

In attendance:
Frédéric Vervisch, Audi Sport Team Comtoyou, first position
Timo Scheider, ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport, second position
Yvan Muller, YMR, third position

Q:
Frédéric, you are now the 15th different winner of the season and as a Macau rookie, too. Just explain your race.

FV:
We had a strong car on the straight. Our start was quite OK, I managed to overtake Ceccon and then I was behind Timo, but on the first lap he was pulling away so I thought it would be difficult. But on the second lap his pace dropped a bit and I thought it was a possibility to overtake. But it’s not easy, but I could just overtake before Mandarin. I said it was now or never, thanks to my great car, and then I think it was just about controlling the race and not making any mistakes because they were fighting. I am very happy and it’s great to be in front of these two legends. I am very happy for the team as well, for our first victory.

Q:
Timo, it looked like we were going to have our first German winner in WTCR OSCARO, but not quite. How was your race?

TS:
My target was to get down to Mandarin and Lisboa in the lead, and this went well, then I tried to pull a gap as quickly as possible. This went well, I have to say, my first lap was quite OK. But we knew after yesterday that we would have some issues with the Audi top speed and he passed me before Mandarin. After this I had a pretty nice fight with Yvan. This is how I like racing and it was quite enjoyable, I have to say.

Q:
Yvan, you’ve cut the gap to Gabriele Tarquini to 18 points and your YMR team is three points in front in the teams’ standings. But what an incredible battle with Timo. How was that for you?

YM:
It was great, but very intense. When you are in Macau it is already complicated. But when you are in Macau to play for the championship it is even worse. And when you have to be on the podium, imagine how hard it is. But it was a good fight. I enjoyed the race. But now I am more focused on what I have to do to enjoy the moment.
