This week, leaders of international sport federations have gathered in Lausanne to join the annual International Federation Forum organised by the Sport Accord Convention on 8-10 November

sustainability, smart cities

The three day event offers a diversity of workshops, panel sessions and case studies with a focus on sustainability practices recognised and adopted by International Sport Federations.

The theme of sustainability is split into five main clusters in the Forum’s programme, including infrastructure and natural sites, sourcing and secure management, mobility, workforce and climate change. The FIA was invited to join the discussion on sustainable development in the mobility area and share its experience of launching the FIA Smart Cities Initiative. The Initiative was selected as one of the best practice case study among various sustainability programmes implemented by International Sport Federations around the world. Designed along the axes of Sport and Mobility, the Smart Cities Initiative serves as a platform to promote innovations and discuss policies in the field of urban mobility.

A series of IF case studies are prepared under the leadership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to fulfill the recommendation 5 of the Olympic Agenda 2020 (“Include Sustainability within the Olympic Movement daily operations”). A full story on the FIA Smart Cities case study can be found here.
