Held on 18 November on the Smart City Live 2020 online platform, the FIA Smart Cities Leaders eTalk gathered FIA Smart Cities partners, including Formula E, ABB and Julius Baer, and the RACC Foundation to discuss how the power of innovation can be leveraged to promote efficient and reliable smart cities solutions for a post-pandemic world.

Held on 12 November, the FIA Smart Cities eForum – Americas gathered urban mobility experts from all sectors to look at how urban mobility can be recalibrated so that it is fit for post-pandemic purpose in the Americas region.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the mobility patterns for over a billion people around the globe. Governments the world over have focused on managing continuity and implementing programmes to ensure recovery. However, despite the modelling and predictions of what the future may hold, uncertainty abounds. We know the crisis will end, but what will remain of the changes that have been enacted? Will recent initiatives aimed at making urban mobility safer, more sustainable and more accessible remain in place over the long term? Or will they become impractical and inefficient should large sections of the population return to previous mobility habits?

Held on 23 September, the FIA Smart Cities eForum - Asia-Pacific gathered thought leaders from international organisations to discuss how cities are adapting to the new mobility normal created by COVID-19.

Held online on 22 July, the ‘FIA Smart Cities eForum — Europe’ gathered thought leaders from international organisations to discuss how transport is being reshaped in times of a global pandemic.

The FIA and its Members Clubs have a long history of being an accelerator of progress, most notably from a technical perspective . Innovation and a results-oriented mindset are all part of our DNA. The global COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us to strengthen our efforts to actively encourage and deliver a lasting positive contribution on society in a broader way.

In an ever more virtual world, the FIA Smart Cities Forum will be held online for the first time. For Season 4, a series of three eForums dedicated to Europe (22 July), Asia (23 September), and the Americas (12 November), will gather key players in smart and sustainable urban mobility from all regions of the world to discuss how transport is being reshaped in times of a global pandemic.

The Asian Edition of the FIA Smart Cities Global Start-Up Contest Season 4 awarded Aurassure, an IoT-enabled intelligent system that collects and analyses environmental factors through real-time data.

To share the latest ideas and developments in smart urban transport transformations and to promote sustainable and inclusive mobility through innovation and new technologies, FIA Smart Cities has launched the ‘FIA Smart Cities Voices’, a video and podcast interview series that gives the floor to global mobility experts.

As they are affected by the global health crisis, the FIA Mobility Division is continuing to support its Member Organisations and the actions they are taking to help face the COVID-19 crisis.
