The associated campaign will see the FIA urge support from the FIA Community, across both Sport and Mobility arms of the organisation, to contribute funds that will go entirely to the local National Sporting Authority, the Nepal Auto Sports Association (NASA).

NASA will then utilise the funds to contribute to the reconstruction of the infrastructure for automobile  mobility and provision of vehicles to use in rehabilitation projects.

The FIA will open the fund by making a direct contribution to the amount of €100,000.

FIA President Jean Todt, and Global Road Safety Ambassador Michelle Yeoh have also committed to private donations to the fund and Michelle just arrived in Kathmandu to directly convey the FIA support.

The  FIA has been informed that other FIA Community members have already acted  to contribute to this fund.

The FIA was present in Nepal when the earthquake struck the country, where it was holding the inaugural FIA Asia-Pacific Sport Congress.

The event was attended by 45 delegates from 14 countries right across the Asia-Pacific region, as well as FIA officials including President Jean Todt, Road Safety Ambassador Michelle Yeoh, Deputy President for Sport, Graham Stoker and FIA Vice-President  for Sport Morrie Chandler.

Mr Todt stressed the importance of demonstrating solidarity with Nepal in its time of crisis.

“Those of us that were in Kathmandu during the immediate aftermath of the earthquake will never forget witnessing the suffering and loss that the Nepal people were dealing with,” said the FIA President.

“It was clear from the outset that this would be a long and difficult reparation process.

“The FIA is pleased to be able to establish this fund – and we encourage the global FIA community to make a contribution to the rehabilitation of the country in a time of great need.

“All of the delegates in the FIA delegation in Kathmandu owe a huge debt of gratitude to our friends at NASA who, despite their own personal pressures, put the welfare of all of us first and foremost.

“It is only right that the FIA can help out in some small way.”
