2018 Race of Le Mans -  Race 1 and 2

Jochen Hahn is on the cusp of taking the 2018 FIA ETRC title after winning the first race at Le Mans Bugatti today.

The German, who is aiming to make history by becoming a five-time champion, controlled the race after capitalising on a slight error by pole-sitter Sascha Lenz.

Hahn now has a 79 point lead with only 90 now available and looks set to be crowned as champion in France tomorrow.

Andre Kursim claimed a popular victory in race two as he took his distinctive Don't Touch Racing IVECO to a conclusive win.

While it was the young German's third FIA ETRC victory, it was the first for the Don't Touch Racing squad which is making its first appearance in the championship this year.

Race 1

Jochen Hahn took a ninth win of his stellar 2018 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season after a well-judged win in the first race at Le Mans Bugatti today.

The four-time champion took the lead from polesitter Sascha Lenz in his SL Trucksport MAN midway around the first lap when Lenz ran wide.

Hahn needed no second invitation and snatched the lead. He then opened up a small gap which he was able to hold to the chequered flag.

Hahn took the flag with his customary power slide and also clinched another 20-points. This means that he now enjoys an 80 point lead over Adam Lacko and could conceivably take the title later today.

The battle for the final podium position saw a tenacious fight between former teammates Andre Kursim (Don’t Touch Racing) and Norbert Kiss (Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz).

Also embroiled in this battle were Antonio Albacete and the returning Ryan Smith who made a foursome in a frenetic battle which kept the large French crowd thrilled.

Race 2

Andre Kursim claimed the third win of his FIA European Truck Racing Championship season at Le Mans Bugatti this afternoon.

In doing so the young German scored the first ever victory for the Don’t Touch Racing team and made it a memorable day for the Sven Walter led squad in its maiden FIA ETRC season.

Pole-sitter, Kursim, managed to fend off the advances of Steffi Halm’s Team Schwabentruck IVECO on the first lap to lead the field.

Halm herself then instantly came under attack from her old teammate Rene Reinert and the two ran nose-to-tail until lap three when the pair collided spectacularly.

While Halm was able to continue, Reinert was pitched through the gravel and in to the wall. He was unable to continue and the incident was immediately placed under investigation by the stewards.

All this allowed Kursim to breakaway at the front and by the start of lap four he had a healthy three second lead which allowed him to control the race.
