INTERESTING FACTS
Pau is a town on the northern edge of the Pyrenees in the region of Aquitaine, France. It is around 100 kilometres away from the Atlantic Ocean and 50 km away from the Spanish boarder. The race is run around a street circuit in the French town, and it is in many ways similar to the famous Monaco Grand Prix. The narrow and winding circuit does not forgive any driving mistakes and as overtaking is difficult, the qualifying results are very important.
The event in Pau is one of the most prestigious meetings on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship calendar and even more so in 2016, when the Grand Prix de Pau celebrates its 75th anniversary.
The first race at the spectacular street circuit in Pau was held back in 1933 and former winners include Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark and Jochen Rindt.
Due to the nature of a street circuit, there are many areas from which fans and residents can get a close look onto the racing action on track. And Pau even offers entertainment after the chequered flag has been waved as the street festival around the market place is nearly as busy in the evenings as the grandstands are during the day.
