Building Critical Synergies: FIA supports Euro NCAP Truck Safe Results and Experience Event

Last week, Euro NCAP launched the first ever Truck Safe rating, marking a significant milestone in heavy goods vehicle safety. As a member of Euro NCAP, the FIA emphasised the importance of this new rating and the need to foster synergies across road safety programmes.

At the launch event, held at the HORIBA MIRA Technology Park in Nuneaton (UK), FIA Head of Road Safety and Global advocacy Luca Pascotto shared views on how the Euro NCAP Truck Safety programme and the FIA Road Safety Index can work hand in hand to advance road safety.

The FIA Road Safety Index is an essential tool for companies and organisations to assess and analyse the impact of their operations on road safety. By enabling them to measure their safety footprint, the Index helps companies and organisations to set safety goals, track progress, and include their results into sustainability reporting. The Index is an unprecedented tool giving them the chance to improve road safety for their own employees and, ultimately, benefit the whole road user community.

The new Euro NCAP’s Truck Safe rating is a natural complement to the FIA Road Safety Index as it aims to raise truck safety standards and foster collaboration between truck manufacturers, companies, hauliers, and road authorities to reduce the number of crashes involving Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs).

By building ties between the new rating and the FIA Road Safety Index, Euro NCAP and the FIA are supporting companies in further strengthening their road safety efforts and commitment.

Luca Pascotto said, "After setting the standard for safety in passenger cars for over two decades, Euro NCAP is now further extending its assessments to commercial vehicles and this is a major milestone. We are joining forces to pursue our shared goal and engage the private sector in the journey towards safer roads for all. Through our FIA Road Safety Index, we will encourage the introduction of Euro NCAP Truck Safe rating in internal policies, whenever possible, so delivering companies, logistic contractors, but also public authorities, can leverage the power of procurement to ensure safer vehicles are purchased. This will have a tremendous road safety impact.”
