As we come to the 3rd Lurani round, surprise Championship leader is Class C2 driver James Owen in his Elva 200, but expect the overall winner today to come from Class E1, where David Methley returns, after indisposition, with his ex-Bob Birrell Brabham BT6, to do battle with Pau GP winner Jonathon Hughes in his similar car and in form Pete Morton in his aptly named Lightning Envoyette.  While the international flavour of Formula Junior is exemplified by other strong contenders, Swiss drivers Philipp Buhofer (Lola Mk5A),and  Marc Amez-Droz (Brabham BT6) JP Campos Costa (Lola Mk5) from Portugal, and Italian Conti Manfredo Rossi di Montelera (Lotus 22) along with Britons Mark Pangborn (Lotus 20) and Richard Smeeton’s Wainer, with “Ferrari” type shark nose.

 

Class D2 will likely see Sir John Chisholm in his ex-Mike Parkes Chequered Flag, Gemini Mk III A, take a class win.

 

Class C sees the return of the 2011 FIA Lurani Trophy Champion John Delane from Redonda Beach, California in his Hall & Hall prepared Lotus 18, while James Owen will be fighting to retain his points lead, but true excitement will come from F5000 driver Greg Thornton, having mastered the art of 3 wheel cornering in his Cooper T52, Denmark’s Pierre Guichard will be a delight to watch  in the improving red Italian Faccioli, and Kim Shearn from Australia joins us again for the first time in 2013 in his immaculate rebuilt Lotus 18. Peter Knöfel from Germany makes up the class challengers with his ex Mike Spence Emeryson.

 

Class B is a crowd delight, the iconic front engined cars bringing back the spirit of the 1950’s. Another Class B1 and B2 double must be on the cards for the two front wheel drive Bonds, of Gil Duffy, and Andrew Tart, under the watchful eye of owner and period Bond driver, Jon Goddard-Watts. Justin Fleming, Roman lawyer Andrew Guarino and Dietrich Merkel from Brunswick in Germany will be in their Lola Mk2’s, while Formula Junior Chairman Duncan Rabagliati will be trying hard to keep up with these five in his familiar orange Alexis.

Belgian Stanguellini historian Jan Biekens will be joined in the ‘Italian’ Class A by the yellow car of Guido Di Egidio, and the rival Taraschi of Daniele Salodini
