2013 European Rally Cup - Saturnus Rally day two report

After the second day of racing, Hermann Gassner Sr (GER) is leading the 36th Rally Saturnus. Giving chase is rival Darko Peljhan (SVN), only four seconds behind the leader, and 13 seconds behind him in third place is last year's winner Aleks Humar (SVN). Despite his strong performance, Gassner Sr is not eligible to enter the FIA European Rally Cup, due to the new tyres rule implemented on the 1st of May.

FIA European Cup standings after day two:

1. Peljhan/Lazar (SLO), Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX – 01:20:44.4

2. Humar/Rus (SLO), Renault Clio R3 - 01:20:57.8

3. Saliuk/Chervonenko (KAZ), Skoda Fabia S2000 – 01:22:54.0

The second day of racing was marked by rain and soggy tarmac. Peljhan lost his lead to Gassner after SS Janče, when the margin between the two was over nine seconds. By the end of the day, that gap had been reduced to four seconds. On the last stage of the day, a flat tyre cost Saliuk more than minute and a half. Humar improved with every stage, and finished Saturday trailing by only 17 seconds.

Tomorrow's running brings additional interest and excitement thanks not only to the tight margins between the frontrunners, but also due to the introduction of new special stages Krtina and Moravče.
