120 years of innovation and inspiration: Rwandan Student Artists Competition
Rwandan artists are invited to submit an artwork inspired by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile’s 120th anniversary to win a cash prize and the chance to attend the star-studded annual FIA Awards hosted in Kigali.
Calling all Rwandan art students aged 18-30!
To be in with the chance to win a grand prize of 3,000,000 FRW and tickets to the glittering FIA Awards in Kigali on 13th December, the FIA – in partnership with the Rwanda’s Ministry Youth and Arts – wants to inspire your creativity.
Decided by an esteemed panel of judges, the winning artwork will be inspired by the FIA’s 120th anniversary, celebrating the history and innovation of the Federation across global motor sport and mobility during the last century.
We want to see originality, creativity, and the integration of Rwandan and African elements into your piece which must be a physical work of art such as a painting or sculpture.
- First prize: 3,000,000 FRW, two tickets and all expenses paid trip to the FIA Awards in Kigali, and your artwork to be showcased at the FIA headquarters in Paris
- Second prize: 2,000,000 FRW
- Third prize: 1,500,000 FRW
Entrants must be:
- Aged between 18-30
- Of Rwandan nationality
- Living in Rwanda
- Students on courses verified by the Rwanda TVET Board, Rwanda Polytechnic and University of Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology, such as Fine Arts and Design, Graphic Design, Architecture, Industrial Art and Design, Ceramics and Sculpture and others related Applied Arts.
Entries are now open and close on 27 November 2024.

CONTEST “120 years of innovation and inspiration”
The complete rules of the Contest (referred to hereafter as the “Rules”) consist of:
This document, and any other addendum to this document which are an integral part of the Rules of the Contest.
BY ENTERING THE CONTEST, YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE TO THE RULES WITHOUT RESERVE. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO ACCEPT THE RULES, YOU MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST.
ARTICLE 1 – ORGANISATION OF THE CONTEST
- 1 On the occasion of the 2024 FIA Prize Giving ceremony which be held in Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (hereafter referred to as the “FIA” or the “Organiser”), a not-for-profit association declared in conformity with the Swiss Code Civil, having its offices at 2 Chemin de Blandonnet, 1214, Vernier, Geneva, Switzerland is organising a contest, with no purchase necessary, entitled “120 years of innovation and inspiration.” (hereinafter referred to as the “Contest”) and accessible on the url http: //www.fia.com(hereinafter referred to as the “Site”).
- 2 The contest will be held from 13 November, 2024 from 00h01 to 27 November 2024 until 23h59 CAT.
- 3 Participants are invited to create a visual work of art that celebrates the FIA’s 120th anniversary, according to the instructions disclosed by the Organiser on 13 November 2024 on the Site and submit their creation by 27 November 2024 until 23h59 CAT (hereinafter referred to individually as the “Creation” and collectively as the “Creations”) by sending to the following email address: fiaga@fia.com:
- A picture of the Creation;
- A title for the Creation;
- A written description of the inspiration behind the Creation.
- 4 The Creation itself must be a physical work of art such as a painting or sculpture.
ARTICLE 2 – ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- 1 This free to enter Contest is exclusively open to:
- Adult individuals aged between 18 - 30,
- of Rwandan nationality,
- Living in Rwanda, and
- who are students on courses verified by the Rwanda TVET Board, Rwanda Polytechnic and University of Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology, such as Fine Arts and Design, Graphic Design, Architecture, Industrial Art and Design, Ceramics and Sculpture and others related Applied Arts.
- with the exception of those working for the Organiser and all people having participated directly or indirectly in the creation or management of the Contest as well as their spouse, domestic partners or direct members of their families (ascendants and descendants).
- 2 The Organiser reserves the right to ask all Participants to justify the conditions described above.
- 3 Any person who does not meet these conditions or refuses to justify them will be excluded from the Contest and, in the event of winning, will not receive the prize.
- 4 Participation is strictly nominative and only one participation per person is authorised (same name and surname).
- 5 Participation is limited to the submission of a single Creation per Participant.
- 6 Any Participant sending a representation of his/her Creation declares that he/she has previously read and expressly accepts the terms and conditions of the present Rules, including acceptance of the use of the Creation.
- 7 The Participant must take all measures to prevent any situation where the impartial and objective award of the Prize is compromised for reasons involving economic interests, political or national affinity, family or emotional ties or any other shared interests.
ARTICLE 3 – AWARD OF PRIZES
- 1 On 5 December 2024, a panel of 3 judges will select first 3 (three) Creations from those submitted by emails and then between the 3 (three) Creations, they will establish a ranking: first Winner, second Winner and third Winner.
- 2 The date of the vote by the panel of judges, however, is subject to change if circumstances require, without notice and no claim can be made to the Organiser.
- 3 The panel of judges will include a member of the FIA senior management along with 2 (two) other judges who will be recommended by the Ministry of Youth and Arts.
- 4 The selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the theme imposed;
- Originality of the Creation;
- Aesthetic qualities of the Creation;
- Integration of Rwandan/African elements in the Creation.
- 5 The judges are under no obligation whatsoever to justify their choice, and in no circumstance will it be the subject of protest or be asked for an explanation of any sort.
- 6 The first Winner, the second Winner and the third Winner whose Creations are selected will be notified by e-mail by the Organiser.
- 7 They must then make their Creation available to the Organiser, according to the specifications indicated by the Organiser.
- 8 The Creations of the first, second and third Winners will be presented at the FIA Prize Giving ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024 and promoted on the FIA’s website, social plaforms and within media materials, with international exposure.
- 9 The Creations of the first, second and third Winners will then be permanently showcased at the FIA’s offices in Geneva or Paris.
- 10 The Prize to be awarded to the Winners:
- First Winner: 3,000,000 FRW plus 2 tickets (for him/her and a guest) to attend the Prize Giving ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024;
- Second Winner: 2,000,000 FRW;
- Third Winner: 1,500,000 FRW.
- 11 The Organiser will organise and bear the reasonable costs of one night accommodation for the first Winner and his/her guests in Kigali as well as those of local transport upon request.
- 12 The Winner may not claim any other compensation from the Organiser or the companies acting as service providers or partners.
- 13 Under no circumstances may the Prize be exchanged for another prize or for its monetary value or any other good or service.
- 14 The Organiser reserves the right to replace the Prize with another prize of the same value and with similar characteristics if circumstances so require.
- 15 Winner shall not assign the Prize or its part or the rights and obligations arising from the Prize, in whole or in part, without prior written authorisation from the Organiser.
ARTICLE 4 – INELIGIBILITY OF A CREATION
4.1 Any Creation will be eliminated from the Contest:
- if advertising a third-party brand (no third-party brands to appear in the Creations);
- if undermining human dignity and the image of the FIA;
- if it includes elements affecting and contrary to public order or morality, including regulations relating to pornographic content or pedophilia, inciting racial hatred, constituting incitement to violence, etc;
- if it includes elements contrary to these Rules or legal and or regulatory provisions;
- if the technical quality was deemed insufficient to be used.
4.2 The Participant specifically undertakes to ensure that the Creation sent does not violate, intentionally or not, any current law whether at a local, regional, national or international level. In particular, he/she undertakes to:
- Not to send a Creation that he/she does not have the right to transfer, in particular if this Creation is subject to a confidentiality clause or if it is protected by any intellectual property rights belonging to third parties;
- Not to act in such a way as to damage the image and/or reputation of the FIA.
ARTICLE 5 – INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY - AUTHORISATION OF USE
5.1 By participating in this Contest and sending his/her Creation to the Organiser in the conditions described above, and subject to its eligibility for copyright protection, the first, second and third Winners expressly assign to the Organiser all of his/her economic rights to represent and reproduce, subject to Article 5.2 for reproduction, his/her Creation:
- on all communication platforms, including print, broadcast, digital, existing electronic (press, website, social networks, posters, advertising, etc.), or to come;
- in all formats;
- all over the world;
- for the duration of the longest protection currently granted for such use by legal or regulatory provisions, judicial and / or arbitral decisions of all countries for current or future international conventions including any extensions that may be made to this time;
- solely for the promotional and institutional communication of the FIA, and/or of the rights holders of the FIA, including the Rwandan Ministry for Youth and Arts, ensuring the promotion of their role as partner/sponsor of the FIA.
5.2 Any reproduction of the Creations will be subject to the prior approval of the first, second and third Winners.
5.3 Participants grant this assignment in consideration of the monetary prize awarded to each Winner, as detailed in Article 3.10, and do not request from the Organiser any other financial compensation of any kind in this regard.
5.4 The first, second and third Winners’ Creations will be presented at the FIA Prize Giving ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024 and promoted on the FIA’s website, social platforms and within media materials, with international exposure.
5.5 The first, second and third Winners’ Creations will then be permanently showcased at the FIA’s offices in Geneva or Paris
5.6 The Organiser will credit each Creation with the name of the Participant for each use.
5.7 Participants expressly and irrevocably authorise the Organiser to respond to advertising promotional campaign imperatives, to make any modification, change and addition (text or any photo, video and or audio content), delete or correct what it deems useful for the use of their Creation under the conditions defined above.
5.8 The Organiser hereby grants to the Participants a limited, non-exclusive, free-of-charge license to use FIA´s name, acronym and logo solely for the purpose of creating the artwork in connection with the Contest.
ARTICLE 6 – WARRANTIES
6.1 The Participant declares that he/she is the creator of the Creation sent to the FIA.
6.2 The Participant warrants that, at the date of submission of his/her Creation:
- the Creation is his/her original work, and have not been copied wholly or substantially from any other work or material;
- the Participant is the sole absolute and unencumbered legal and beneficial owner of all rights of whatever nature, including intellectual property rights, attached to his/her Creation.
ARTICLE 7 – LIABILITY
- 1 The Organiser shall not be held liable if, for reasons of force majeure or any event beyond its control, the Contest, subject to these Rules, has to be cancelled, extended, shortened, postponed or modified.
- 2 The Organiser shall not be held liable for reasons of force majeure or any event beyond its control partially or totally preventing Participants from participating in the Contest and/or the Winner from enjoying his/her Prize, including the cancellation of the Prize Giving ceremony in Kigali.
- 3 The Organiser, its service providers or partners will not be held responsible for the loss, damage or theft of the Creations of the first, second and third Winnersonce they have taken possession of them.
ARTICLE 8 – DATA PROTECTION
8.1 The Organiser is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of personal data and will use the data hereby provided solely for managing the Participants’ participation to the Contest.
8.2 The provision of the personal data listed in the table below is mandatory for the participation to the Contest.
8.3 As part of the Contest, the Organiser will process the personal data of the Participants (the “Personal Data”) as detailed in the table below. The table below also explains why we use the personal data, who this data is shared with and Organiser legal basis for using such data.

8.4 Other disclosures
In addition to the third parties listed above, the Organiser may also be required to disclose the Personal Data if required to do so by law or pursuant to a binding regulatory request (in such circumstances, such disclosure will at all times be solely to the extent required by law or the applicable regulatory request). The Organiser may also be required to share the Personal Data with our professional advisors, subject in each case to strict confidentiality undertakings.
The Organiser may also share the Personal Data with FIA France (8, place de la Concorde, 75008, Paris, France), in connection with the above stated purposes.
8.5 International transfers
In the case of the Personal Data being transferred to organisations or individuals who are located in countries outside of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) or Switzerland, in connection with the processing purposes described in the above table. In each case, the Organiser will ensure that all adequate protections are in place in respect of the processing of such data outside of the EEA.
8.6 How long do we store the Personal Data?
The Organiser will retain the Personal Data only for as long as is strictly necessary for the purposes for which such data was originally collected (as referred to above), and thereafter for such longer period as may be required by law.
The Personal Data will be deleted within six months after the end of the Contest, except for the Winners.
For the Winners and the traveling companion of the first Winner, the Personal Data will be retained for the period of one year after the Prize Giving ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda on 13 December 2024, without prejudice of the grant of rights provided for in Article 5 above.
8.7 Data subject rights
The Participant (and the traveling companion of the first Winner) have the right to request: (i) the access to the Personal Data; (ii) the correction of the Personal Data; (iii) the deletion of the Personal Data; (iv) the restriction of processing of the Personal Data; (v) the portability of the Personal Data and to (vi) object to processing of the Personal Data if the Organiser is relying on a legitimate interest.
8.8 Please note that depending on the legal basis, some of the rights may not be available.

8.9 However, it is specified that the exercise by a Participant of their right to delete the Personal Data pertaining to them during the running of the Contest will lead to their participation being cancelled.
8.10 The Participant (and the traveling companion) also have a right to lodge a complaint to the French or Swiss Data Protection Supervisory Authority (respectively, CNIL or FDPIC) if they are concerned about the way the Organiser is handling the Personal Data.

ARTICLE 9 – GOVERNING LAW – JURISDICTION
9.1 These Rules and any dispute or claim (including non-contractual disputes or claims) arising out of or in connection with it or its subject matter or formation shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Rwanda.
9.2 Each party irrevocably agrees that the Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC)shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these Rules or its subject matter or formation.
ARTICLE 10 - LANGUAGE
The language of these Rules of Contest is English. Any communication in relation to these Rules shall be in English.
