WEC: Cadillac claims maiden pole at Fuji

Cadillac secured its first-ever FIA World Endurance Championship pole position, topping the Hyperpole session ahead of tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Fuji, seventh and penultimate round of the 2024 season, thanks to a blistering lap by Alex Lynn

Lynn delivered a sensational 1:28.901s lap, securing Cadillac’s inaugural pole position in the Hypercar class and leaving the home fans stunned. The British racer edged out Ryō Hirakawa in the #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid by a mere 0.041 seconds. Completing the top three was Dries Vanthoor, who set a 1:29.065s lap in the #15 BMW M Team WRT entry.

Joining the BMW on the second row was the #7 Toyota, driven by Kamui Kobayashi. The fastest Porsche in the session was the championship-leading #6 Porsche Penske, piloted by Kévin Estre, while Charles Milesi, behind the wheel of the #35 Alpine, rounded out the top six for Les Bleues.

Further down the grid, the #50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P claimed seventh, followed by the #5 Porsche Penske in eighth. Daniil Kvyat, in the #63 Lamborghini Iron Lynx SC63, achieved a best-ever ninth place for Lamborghini in their first Hyperpole appearance, with Julien Andlauer completing the top ten in the #99 Proton Competition Porsche 963.

FERRARI ON LMGT3 POLE
In the LMGT3 class, François Hériau took his first-ever pole position of the season in the #55 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari with a 1:40.893s lap, narrowly beating the #81 TF Sport Corvette driven by Tom van Rompuy by just 0.082 seconds. Joshua Caygill secured third place for the #95 United Autosports McLaren.

The Iron Dames Lamborghini, with Sarah Bovy behind the wheel, grabbed fourth on the grid, while James Cottingham in the #59 United Autosports McLaren completed the second row, delivering United Autosport’s best qualifying performance of the season.
