The #92 Porsche headed LMGTE Pro for the fourth time this season, while #28 JOTA takes top position in LMP2 for second pole of 2021, the extra point doubling their championship lead ahead of tomorrow’s race.  Iron Lynx secured their debut WEC pole after the #60 Ferrari finished on top in LMGTE Am, ahead of the #98 Aston Martin Racing entry. 

Hypercar  

The #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing takes Hypercar and overall pole in Bahrain as Brendon Hartley sets the pace. He guided Toyota GR010 HYBRID Hypercar to best lap of 1m47.049s, his first pole since Fuji 2020.

The Kiwi beat the #7 sister Toyota HYBRID to reduce points deficit to eight points ahead of tomorrow's race after Kamui Kobayashi set a best lap of 1m47.447s. 

The #36 Alpine ELF Matmut A480 driven by Andre Negrao will start third after the Brazilian lapped in 1m48.003s. Negrao did go faster in the final moments of the session but lost it after infringing track limits.

 

LMGTE Pro  

The #92 Porsche GT Team took the LMGTE Pro pole with Kevin Estre setting best lap of 1m56.144s.  The French driver celebrates four poles from five rounds so far this season and reduces gap in title chase to 11-points.

Porsche claims 1-2 lock-out as Gimmi Bruni takes #91 Porsche 911 RSR to a best of 1m56.178s, just 0.034s off pole time. Porsche enjoys sizeable 1.18 second advantage over class rival, Ferrari.

AF Corse Ferraris to start third and fourth as #51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo heads #52 AF Corse run entry, with Alessandro Pier Guidi and Miguel Molina separated by just 0.3s. 

LMP2  

Britain’s Tom Blomqvist claimed the pole in LMP2 class for JOTA for second time in 2021. 

His very rapid 1m49.885s lap was deleted for exceeding track limits but his second fastest lap of 1m49.932 was still good enough to take the top spot ahead of the #22 United Autosports USA car.

JOTA also took third best time as #38 Oreca-Gibson driven by Antonio Felix da Costa placed third to make it three title contenders in first three positions on the grid.

Loïc Duval peaks on a 1m50.559s to take fourth and also lead Pro/Am division for Realteam Racing.  

LMGTE Am  

Rino Mastronardi sealed the first Iron Lynx pole position in FIA WEC in #60 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo. The newly crowned ELMS LMGTE Champion lapped in 1m59.687s to out-pace #98 Aston Martin Racing car driven by Paul Dalla Lana by 0.7s.  Third on the LMGTE Am grid for tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Bahrain will be the #56 Project 1 Porsche as Egidio Perfetti gets to within 0.073s of the Aston. 

The 6 Hours of Bahrain is due to get underway at 11h00 (local) / 10h00 CEST
