EHRC: FIA EHRC Attracts 24 cars from 10 Nations for 29th Historic Vltava Rallye
Round 2 of the 2021 FIA European Historic Rally Championship will take place in the Czech Republic with the 29th edition of the Historic Vltava Rallye. The rally is based in the Bohemian city of Klatovy and has attracted a truly international field with a great selection of historic cars to compete for class honours on the Czech roads.
Audi, Ford, Opel, Renault and Skoda in Category 4
Category 4 has attracted 6 entries from Spain, Austria, Finland and two home entries from the Czech Republic. Daniel Alonso Villaron, who will be co-driven by Candido Carrera Estevez for this rally, finished second on Round 1 in Italy and, with Round 1 winners Lucio Da Zanche and Daniele De Luis not entering the second rally of the season, are the leading EHRC Category 4 entry in the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4.
The Spanish duo will face some stiff opposition from Finland’s Ville Silvasti and Risto Pietilainen in the Audi quattro A2, Carlos Sampayo Cao and Alejandro Cid Alvarez in the Renault 11 Turbo and Alfons Nothdurfter and Juergen Nolte in their Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4.
Germany’s Juergen Geist and Romona Kees will enter the Vltava Historic Rally with an Opel Manta 400, while local opposition in Category 4 will come a pair of Skoda Favorits. Oldrich Kovarik and Marek Kapic will compete in a Skoda Favorit 136L, while Jiri Ters and Pavel Vitovec are entered in the other Skoda.
Audi, Ford, Lada, Porsche, Volvo and VW in Category 3
The EHRC entry for Category 3 in Vltava will consist of 7 cars, with Round 1 winners Zippo and Denis Piceno once again looking for victory in their Audi quattro. The Historic Vltava Rallye will also the first outing for reigning champions Karl Wagner and Gerda Zauner, who will be competing in their Porsche 911 on the Czech roads.
Siegfried and Renate Mayr will start their second rally of the EHRC season in the Volvo 244 after finishing third in class in Italy. Austria’s Georg Reitsperger and his Croatian Co-driver Lana Sutlovic will compete in a VW Golf 1 16S.
Alfa Romeo, Ford, Porsche, Opel and Skoda in Category 2
Nine cars are entered in Category 2, with Round 1 winners Maurizio Pagella and Roberto Brea not entering Round 2 in the Czech Republic, the leading EHRC entry is the Ford Escort RS1800 of Ernie and Karen Graham, who finished second in Italy, just ahead of the Alfa Romeo GTam 1750 of Laszlo and Edit Mekler and the Porsche 911 RSR of Anders and Ingrid Johnsen, who are all entered to resume the challenge.
Paolo Pasutti and Giovani Campeis were the Category 2 front runners on day 1 in Sanremo until a problem dropped them down the order. The Italians are on the entry list in their Porsche 911RS, so expect to see them challenging at the top of the class leader board.
Britain’s James Potter and Geoff Jones will also be starting their second rally of the 2021 season in the Ford Escort Mk1 and will be hoping for better luck in the Czech Republic.
There are four Czech crews entered in Category 2. Miroslav Janota and Peter Novak are entered in their Opel Kadett Coupe, while another Opel Kadett will be rallied by Vojtech Stajf and Vladimir Zelinka.
Reigning Champions and Current Leaders in Category 1
The sole Category 1 entry for the Vltava Historic Rally will be the Porsche 911S of reigning champions Antonio Parisi and Giuseppe D’Angelo, who lead the championship after their convincing win on the 36th Sanremo Rally Storico.
