INTERESTING FACTS
After the Silverstone Circuit did not feature on the 2016 FIA F3 European Championship calendar, the venue returns this year to host the season opener. The circuit can certainly look back at a long history in hosting motor sport events, the first ever round of the Formula One World Championship took place at the iconic track in 1950. Silverstone is a permanent feature on the Formula 1 calendar since 1987 and also this year the Formula 1 GP will take place here.
The circuit located in Northamptonshire, England is by many regarded as the home of British Motor Racing. The FIA Formula 3 European Championship has two British teams on its grid, Carlin and Hitech Grand Prix will contest their home races on Easter weekend. Whereby Hitech GP has the shortest journey, the team’s factory is less than one km away from Silverstone Circuit’s main entrance.
Due to competing at the same venue as an endurance race, the usual weekend timetable had to be adjusted for this event. Free Practice and the first qualifying session will take place on Thursday, the second qualifying session and the first race on Friday, the second race on Saturday and the third race on Sunday.
