WEC - 2016 6 Hours of Nürburgring
Porsche, Audi, WEC, 6 Hours of nürburgring

The 6 Hours of Nurburgring is round 4 of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship and will mark the home race for the two German manufacturers on the grid.  Last year, 62,000 spectators flocked to the World Endurance Championship event in the Eifel and saw Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Germany’s world champion Timo Bernhard, secure their first of four wins for Porsche on their way to the 2015 world crown.  What will happen in 2016?

As in 2015, Porsche travel to the Nurburgring on the back of a victory at Le Mans but unlike 12 months ago, the win at Le Mans was unexpected when the leading Toyota TS050 of Kazuki Nakajima stopped on the last lap of the 24 Hours race, gifting the win to the no2 Porsche 919 of Neel Jani.  Cologne based Japanese team Toyota Gazoo Racing will be looking to level the score in Germany.

While Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani have a commanding 39 point lead, the drivers of the no2 Porsche 919 hybrid know that Audi and Toyota are very competitive this year and will not be taking anything for granted this weekend.

The no8 Audi R18 of Lucas di Grassi, Oliver Jarvis and Loic Duval won round 2 in Belgium and were third at Le Mans and will be looking to take their second victory of the season at home in Germany.  The no7 Audi will be without French driver Benoit Treluyer after he hurt his back while training.  2012 FIA World Endurance Champions Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer will be driving as a duo at the Nurburgring.

After winning in Germany in 2015, Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard will be hoping that the site of their first WEC win will bring them a much needed change in the bad luck that has dogged their title defence in 2016.

While Le Mans was immensely disappointing for Toyota it proved the pace of the new TS050 and the Cologne based team will be looking to challenge for the victory in Germany.

The 2016 6 Hours of Nurburgring is Round 4 of the nine race FIA World Endurance Championship and will take place on the 22-24 August 2016.
