Molly makes history in the ARC
Molly Taylor made history over the weekend when she became the first woman to win a round of the Australian Rally Championship, the second oldest national rally championship in the world.
After surprising herself with a Heat victory at the last Round in Western Australia, Molly - co-driven by Bill Hayes - exceeded her wildest dreams by claiming outright victory at the National Capital Rally in Canberra.
“I have to admit my first outright win does feel pretty good!” said Molly. “It’s always good to win, obviously, but I don’t think of myself as being the first woman to win a round. I’m out there to be the first driver home, irrespective of my gender.”
Adding to Molly’s comments, Michèle Mouton, President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, said: “The first outright victory is important for confidence and Molly has done a great job, despite having some problems on the rally. It is another step in her development and this will undoubtedly give her yet more motivation to push even harder rally by rally.”
Victory in Canberra puts Molly at the head of the Championship points table after two of the five events in the 2015 calendar.
