The FIA is saddened to learn of the passing of former Formula One driver Justin Wilson as a result of injuries sustained in an IndyCar race last weekend.

Wilson achieved outstanding results in European junior categories, dominating the 2001 FIA International F3000 championship - then the feeder category to F1 - winning the title by a record margin.

He drove for the Minardi and Jaguar teams in the 2003 FIA Formula One World Championship. While many in the sport believed Wilson possessed the talent to have a longer Formula One career, he moved to the United States in 2004 and began establishing himself as one of the finest drivers in North America, winning multiple times in IndyCar, Champ Car and sports car racing.
