First event of 2015 in Portugal for KF and KF-Junior

KZ and KZ2 have just been on track at Sarno so now it's the turn of KF and KF-Junior to take possession of the world stage for the first of their Competitions in the CIK-FIA European Championship. The curtain raiser will be held in Portugal from 7th to 10th May, on a circuit that has never been used by the CIK-FIA, with a field consisting of the two categories. The new front fairang attachments will be in place to ensure the highest levels of sporting fairness.

The Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve, in southern Portugal, is preparing to host the first of the three Competitions of the CIK-FIA European Championship for the categories KF and KF-Junior. Situated within the grounds of a magnificent complex dedicated to motorsport, the Portimao track consists of 1531 metres of open terrain, fast and spectacular.

125 Drivers are entered in the two categories, with a high turnover this year. Neither 2014 Champion will be there to defend their title. From 34 nations and 4 continents, the contenders will bring new blood to the Competition.

The KF category, for Drivers aged 15 and over with 61 entered, is still strong with the Vice Champion of 2014, the Dane Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), the Italian Felice Tiene (CRG-Parilla-Vega), the Polish Karol Basz (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega), the Dutchman Martijn Van Leeuwen (CRG-TM Racing-Vega) and a group of British Drivers with well established reputations: Tom Joyner (Zanardi-TM Racing -Vega), the World Champion of 2013, Jordon Lennox-Lamb (BirelART-Parilla-Vega), Benjamin Barnicoat (BirelART-Parilla-Vega) and Ben Hanley (Croc Promotions-TM Racing-Vega). Alongside the highly experienced Drivers, many younger Drivers have a chance to take the title. The Russian Alexander Vartanyan (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) is a good example of the rising generation as is the Italian Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), the New Zealander Marcus Armstrong (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), Denmark's Casper Andersen Roes (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) and the Dutchman Richard Verschoor (Exprit-Vortex-Vega).

Usually more turbulent, KF-Junior gathers 64 Drivers at Portimao between 13 and 15 years old, of which it is difficult to isolate favourites. The season has demonstrated the maturity of British Driver Clement Novalak (Tony Kart-Vortex-LeCont), the resourcefulness of the American Logan Sargeant (FA Kart-Vortex-LeCont), the potential of the Dane Christian Lundgaard (Tony Kart-Vortex- LeCont), the determination of the Belgian Ulysse De Pauw (BirelART-Parilla-LeCont) and the progress of the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich (Kosmic-Vortex-LeCont). The pure performance of the Spanish Marta Garcia Lopez (FA Kart-TM Racing LeCont) or the young Dane Noah Watt (FA Kart-Vortex-LeCont) has not gone unnoticed, but there are many talents among them.

This year, the tyres will be supplied by Vega in KF, while LeCont will supply tyres for KF-Junior. But the biggest sporting novelty will be the first use of the new front fairing fasteners at this level of CIK-FIA Competition. Validated following extensive testing in different situations, they should effectively fight against unsporting behaviour and promote fair racing in the Competition.
