UN My World 2015: Vote now for better roads and transport

23.07.14
The FIA has launched a campaign together with the FIA Foundation to raise road safety’s profile on the international stage by encouraging the public to vote for better roads and transport in the UN’s MY World 2015 survey.

Every six seconds someone is killed or seriously injured on the world’s roads, with fatalities now the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-29. And yet road safety is still too often ignored on the political agenda.

As discussions get underway on new UN Sustainable Development Goals post-2015 to replace the existing Millennium Development Goals, the FIA has launched a campaign together with the FIA Foundation to raise road safety’s profile on the international stage by encouraging the public to vote for better roads and transport in the UN’s MY World 2015 survey: http://walksafe.myworld2015.org.

The results of the survey - which asks citizens to choose their priorities for a better world - will be shared with world leaders when setting the next global development agenda and its implementation by the UN.

In May 2011, the FIA Action for Road Safety Campaign was launched to support the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. The campaign has involved:

·  Advocacy at the highest levels to push leaders to commit to road safety both nationally and globally.

·  Supporting action by the 236 FIA Member Clubs in 141 countries worldwide to educate and advocate for safer roads, vehicles and behaviour on the ground. So far, 90 road safety projects in over 50 countries have been funded by the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme.

·  The FIA has also launched worldwide road safety campaigns and programs, either alone or with partners, both institutional and private. For example, together with Michelin, the FIA has promoted 10 Golden Rules for Road Safety worldwide.
