2019 Rally Portugal - O. Tänak / M. Järveoja

Ott Tänak continues to lead Rally Portugal after increasing his advantage on Sunday morning, as Toyota team-mate Kris Meeke lost second place to Thierry Neuville with a spin.

Tänak began the final day just 4.3 seconds ahead of Meeke, who in turn was only 4.9s in front of Neuville, but the Toyota pair dominated the initial loop of three stages to put 10 seconds between themselves and their Hyundai rival.

However, Meeke spun on the exit of a hairpin near the end of the second run of the Montim stage, which made him loose valuable time. He dropped 17.4 seconds to stage-winner Neuville and is now 7.4 seconds behind the Belgian. Tänak’s lead is 16.6 seconds with only the Fafe Power Stage to go.

Fourth-placed Sébastien Ogier took a cautious approach this morning, setting his sights on the Power Stage points rather than on fighting for the podium. Citroën team-mate Esapekka Lappi was fifth when he rolled on the morning’s opening test and then ran wide into a bank on the following stage, damaging his rear-left suspension, which caused him to retire.

That promoted M-Sport Ford duo Teemu Suninen and Elfyn Evans into fifth and sixth respectively.

Kalle Rovanperä leads the FIA WRC 2 Pro class in 8th position overall, with his Škoda team-mate just over a minute behind him.

Toyota’s Jari-Matti Latvala is up to 9th place a further 13,1 seconds behind the Czech, having started following his retirement on Saturday afternoon, while FIA WRC 2 leader Pierre-Louis Loubet completes the top 10.
