World RX - Solberg takes emotional COTA day 1 TQ
2018 World RX of USA - Qualifying 2
Norway’s Petter Solberg followed his Q1 win with the quickest time in Q2 at the World RX of USA, round ten of the FIA World Rallycross Championship to be overnight TQ (top qualifier).
PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson won Q2 race one and set the quickest time at the Circuit of The Americas, but his team mate Solberg won race three and went even faster. Kristoffersson was second quickest and moved up to fifth in the Intermediate Classification. “Of course I’m happy. I’ve had a very tough year with my sickness and almost retired from the season. Coming back to doing this speed and going so well now is very emotional. I’m on much better form and it’s fantastic to do this,” said Solberg. “I have the confidence again, I have more energy so I’m happy to come back again after a very difficult time.”
Team Peugeot Total’s Kevin Hansen was third quickest in Q2 and is fourth on in the Intermediate Classification, behind EKS Audi Sport’s Mattias Ekstrom and Andreas Bakkerud. Bakkerud overtook Ekstrom in Q2 when his team mate was forced wide after contact from Team Peugeot Total’s Sebastien Loeb after the joker lap section. Loeb was given a five-second penalty and dropped to 12th in Q2 and seventh in the Intermediate Classification, one place behind team mate Timmy Hansen. GRX Taneco’s Niclas Gronholm was fifth in Q2 and GC Competition’s Guerlain Chicherit was seventh. Top Olsbergs MSE driver was Kevin Eriksson in ninth.
