World RX - Kristoffersson takes Q2 and overnight TQ
2018 World RX of Germany - Q2
Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson set the quickest time in Q2 at the World RX of Germany, round nine of the FIA World Rallycross Championship and is overnight TQ (top qualifier).
After finishing second to PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team mate Petter Solberg in Q1, Kristoffersson took the lead of Q2 race four and won to set the quickest time. Solberg was third quickest, behind Q2 race three winner Andreas Bakkerud.
“I had a difficult draw in Q1 and it’s not the best to be in the first race with the track evolution which is always in Buxtehude, but I had a very, very good launch and from there on I tried to do my best. The speed was not really enough to beat Petter, but then in Q2 I again had a very, very good launch and tried to maximise my heat run,” said the 2018 World RX Drivers’ Champion. “I saw that Petter was very, very quick behind and I jokered on the third lap to make a gap for both of us to be as fast as possible overall time. But first of all, I’m very happy to be on the pace in Buxtehude on the first day, I haven’t been any in the four years before I’ve been here so the homework has worked out.”
Team Peugeot Total’s Timmy Hansen and Kevin Hansen were fourth and fifth in Q2 and EKS Audi Sport’s Mattias Eskstrom was sixth. Completing the top ten in Q2 were GRX Taneco’s Niclas Gronholm, Team STARD’s Janis Baumanis, Peugeot’s Sebastien Loeb and GC Kompetition’s Guerlain Chicherit.
In the final round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600, Championship leader Rokas Baciuska was quickest twice, Aydar Nuriev was second twice and Timur Shigabutdinov was third in both qualifiers.
