Toyota on top in difficult night conditions
After a delayed start due to heavy rain the cars had to cope with tricky track conditions under the floodlights. The no8 Toyota TS040 of Anthony Davidson snatched the top spot at the chequered flag with a lap of 2m01.333, 1.568s ahead of the no1 Audi R18 of Tom Kristensen. The two Audi’s were split by the no7 Toyota, with the no20 Porsche 919 of Mark Webber, Timo Bernard and Brendon Hartley in 5th, 6 seconds behind the fastest Toyota.
Once again it was the no12 Rebellion Racing R-One of Mathias Beche which led the way in the LMP1-L category, 0.9 seconds ahead of the no13 Rebellion and 3.9 seconds ahead of the Lotus CLM-AER.
In LMP2 the no47 KCMG Oreca-Nissan was the fastest but the top three cars were split by just 0.098s. The no30 Extreme Speed HPD was second quickest, 0.87s behind the KCMG Oreca and just 0.012s ahead of the no26 G Drive Ligier.
The third free practice session will be held tomorrow morning at 10:20 (local) and qualifying for the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas will get underway at 18:00.
