DID YOU KNOW IT?
December 2001 – The circuit was opened. It had been designed by Australian Michael McDonough, who had previous experience of building circuits in China; McDonough was responsible for construction management of the Zhuhai International Circuit in 1996.
10 September 2011 – Goldenport hosted its first FIA race meeting: the ninth round of the FIA GT1 World Championship. Germany-based Young Driver AMR dominated the event with the team Aston Martin DBR9 cars victorious in both races: Tomáš Enge and Alex Müller won the qualifying race, Darren Turner and Stefan Mücke the final.
5 February 2012 – Top Gear’s series 18, episode 2 featured a story called “China’s car industry”. Hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May visited Beijing and Goldenport was the stage for the filming of a challenge between two Chinese saloons: Roewe 350 and Trumpchi GA5. Clarkson described the circuit as “a picturesque racetrack”.
