FIA Annual General Assembly 2018
The FIA held its General Assembly in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, today, bringing to a close its annual series of meetings of Sport and Mobility FIA Member Clubs from around the world. The week’s activities will culminate in this evening’s FIA Prize Giving Gala at the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia at which the winners of the Federation’s championships will be honoured.
Opening the Assembly, FIA President Jean Todt highlighted the growing collaboration between the two pillars of the Federation – Sport and Mobility – saying that the close links between the two arms are leading to progress across a number of key issues.
“One goal I have always had for the FIA is to build bridges between our two pillars, and this is happening,” he said: “Working together will make us stronger.”
During today’s Annual General Assembly meeting, the following decisions were taken:
Amendments to the FIA Statutes
FIA Drifting Commission
Upon proposal of the World Motor Sport Council to create a Drifting Commission, the Assembly ratified the amendment of the FIA Statutes to include such Commission among the list of Sporting Commissions.
Additionally, the Assembly agreed to the following amendments to the FIA Statutes:
- In order to raise the level of requirements for activities linked to automobile mobility and tourism, the Assembly agreed to make recognition for this competence conditional on the organisation demonstrating the existence of a permanent activity in the field of automobile mobility and tourism for at least the last three years.
- Harmonisation of sanction procedures between the FIA and the FIA Automobile Mobility and Tourism Regions
- New boundaries for the FIA Automobile Mobility and Tourism Regions III and IV
- The transfer of powers for approving the Internal Regulations of the Automobile Mobility and Tourism Regions from the General Assembly to the World Council for Automobile Mobility and TourismThe transfer of powers for electing members of the specialised Commissions from the General Assembly to the relevant World Councils.
- Changes to the composition and terms of reference of the FIA Nominations Committee
Internal Regulations for Region III and Region IV
Amended Internal Regulations for Region I, Region III and Region IV were ratified by the General Assembly.
Amendments to the FIA International Sporting Code
The Assembly agreed to several amendments to the International Sporting Code, including the following:
- The FIA Rally Commission’s proposal that the additional period following the expiry of the homologation of Group A, N, R and RGT cars be extended to eight years instead of four in order to increase participation in FIA regional rallies.
- The addition of slalom (gymkhana) as a motor sport discipline.
- In changes to Sporting Zones, the Assembly ratified that foreign licence-holders will be able to score points in the classifications of the national championships open to those licence holders.
Ethics Committee
With the term of office of the President of the FIA Ethics Committee coming to an end on 31 December 2018, the Assembly re-elected the incumbent President and sole candidate:
