Karting is the most common starting point for those wishing take part in motor sport, so what better setting than a Formula E race for the debut of a totally electric-powered kart. That’s why this afternoon, in the Berlin ePrix paddock, the Secretary General of the DMSB, Christian Schacht presented the result of a kart project, carried out in collaboration with Bosch Motorsport and Mach1, under the auspices of the FIA Electric and New Energy Championships Commission (ENECC.) The honour of giving the E-kart its maiden outing on track fell to Bruno Correia, Qualcomm Safety Car driver for the FIA Formula E Championship.“Within the FIA, we are very interested to further push alternative forms of motive power in racing. As karting is usually the beginning of a racing career, it is the ideal platform to do so”, said Prof. Dr. Ing. Burkhard Göschel, President of the ENECC. DMSB Secretary General Christian Schacht added: “We are pleased to support this very interesting electro-kart-project. As a high technology country, Germany has a specific obligation to show commitment for e-mobility in motorsport. We do so with Formula E as well as now with the new generation of kart drivers.”“The acceleration is unbelievable” – said Bruno after trying out the E-kart on the just under two kilometre long Karl-Marx-Allee track. “And its top speed is also really exceptional. I had great fun driving this prototype and I am sure it will be a great success.”
