On 27 April, FIA President Jean Todt gave an introductory speech at the first Parisian Mobility Council, hosted by Mayor Hidalgo on the occasion of the Paris E-Prix and gathering all the major mobility stakeholders of the capital.

The aim of the Council was to discuss the major challenges cities are now facing in the field of urban mobility. Jean Todt took the opportunity of the Council to talk about the FIA Smart Cities initiative, welcomed in Paris last year, which aims to help cities define a new model of sustainable urban mobility and supports their commitment to the UN New Urban Agenda. Road safety was also highlighted as a key element to allow people to move in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner. The #3500LIVES campaign, launched by the FIA together with JCDecaux in March 2017 and now displayed on the Paris City Hall, has proven to be an efficient tool to raise awareness on the road safety issue among all road users around the world.

“Cities, local authorities and mobility experts must share their views about challenges and opportunities in the field of urban transportation to drive change in the long-term. Initiatives such as the Parisian mobility Council encourage this knowledge sharing.”, said Jean Todt. A few hours before the Paris E-Prix, FIA President also underlined the proactive role the FIA plays to push for the development of innovative transport technologies. "FIA Formula E is showcasing electric mobility in the very heart of our cities, demonstrating how e-mobility can shape the future. The technologies used by these fully-electric racing cars will soon be the ones we will have in our road cars."
