Taylor’s achievements in rallying have been rewarded with a recently announced factory drive with Subaru Australia, while Vanneste will be competing full time in the German Rally Championship. Unfortunately, events in both Championships clash with Qatar’s cross country rally.

Reserve driver Charlotte Berton, from France, will therefore now team up with Yasmeen Elmajed in the second T2 vehicle, and South African Sandra Labuscagne will navigate Cristina Gutierrez Herrero, replacing Vanneste in the three-car team entry.

“This is a great adventure, I love to discover new horizons in competition,” said Charlotte. “I will work hard on my physical training to be strong enough to face the heat and inevitable difficulties in the desert. Yasmeen and I drove together during the selection last year; we both had a good feeling and I am confident in sharing the car with her.”

Navigator Labuscagne, who will partner Gutierrez Herrero, was equally enthusiastic about the unexpected opportunity: "My selection came as a big surprise. I am very grateful for the amazing opportunity. It's a dream come true and a privilege to compete in the 2016 Sealine Cross Country Rally. Training and preparation will be key in our success and I am looking forward to the challenge. I would like to thank QMMF and the Commission for the opportunity."

The confirmed line-up for the FIA Women in Motorsport-QMMF three-car entry into the Sealine Cross Country Rally (17-22 April) is:

• Cristina Gutierrez Herrero (ESP) / Sandra Labuscagne (ZAF)

Michèle Mouton, President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, concluded: “It is a shame for Molly and Lara but we are delighted they both have full programmes for the season, underlining the talent we saw in them. While it will be an intense preparation period for Charlotte and Sandra, who we welcome to the team, we have a confirmed fitness, navigation and driver training programme organised in Qatar before the event and I am confident everyone will take the maximum benefit from these final preparations.”

EQUIPAGES FEMININS AU DEPART DU RALLYE TOUT-TERRAIN DU QATAR

Bien qu’elles aient remporté les épreuves de sélection au rallye tout-terrain organisé conjointement par la Commission Femmes dans le Sport Automobile de la FIA (WIMC) et la Qatar Motor and Motorycycle Federation (QMMF), Molly Taylor (AUS) et Lara Vanneste (BEL) ont toutes deux été contraintes de renoncer à leur participation gratuite au Sealine Cross Country Rally. Le brillant palmarès de Molly Taylor en rallye lui a en effet récemment permis de décrocher un contrat de pilote d’usine pour Subaru Australie, tandis que Lara Vanneste disputera le championnat allemand des rallyes. Malheureusement, les dates de ces deux championnats ne sont pas compatibles avec celles du rallye tout-terrain du Qatar.

C’est donc la Française Charlotte Berton, pilote de réserve, qui fera équipe avec Yasmeen Elmajed à bord de la deuxième voiture en groupe T2, et c’est la Sud-africaine Sandra Labuscagne qui sera la navigatrice de Cristina Gutierrez Herrero au volant de la troisième voiture inscrite, en remplacement de Lara Vanneste.

"C’est une grande aventure ; j’adore découvrir de nouveaux horizons en compétition," a déclaré Charlotte. "Je vais beaucoup travailler ma condition physique pour être suffisamment forte pour supporter la chaleur et les inévitables difficultés du désert. Yasmeen et moi avons déjà piloté en duo au cours de la sélection de l’année dernière ; on s’entend bien et je me réjouis de faire équipe avec elle."

La copilote Sandra Labuscagne, qui fera équipe avec Cristina Gutierrez Herrero, était tout aussi heureuse de cette occasion inespérée : "J’ai été très surprise d’être sélectionnée et je suis très reconnaissante de cette chance extraordinaire qui m’est donnée. C’est un rêve qui se réalise et un honneur de participer à l’édition 2016 du Sealine Cross Country Rally. Pour l’emporter, l’entraînement et la préparation seront déterminants et j’ai hâte de relever ce défi. Je tiens à remercier la QMMF et la Commission de la FIA pour la chance qui m’est offerte."
