Nick Rowe and AGI Sport have clawed back major championship points after claiming Round Three of the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship this weekend (1-3 July).

Rowe led much of Sunday's final 15 lap race at Sydney Motorsport Park, although lost the lead on cold tyres after a safety car restart to Luis Leeds.

The SCT Logistics/AGI Sport racer maintained 2nd behind Leeds, which was enough to secure the overall Round Three win.

“We had great car speed,” Rowe said. “I can’t thank all the boys at AGI Sport and SCT Logistics for all their help. We were really looking forward to this weekend, so to get the round win – what else could you want?”

Leeds, who made a one-off return to the championship during the British F4 mid-season break, clinched his first Australian Formula 4 Championship career win in Sunday's final race.

“Nothing worth having comes easy,” Leeds said.

“It’s been pretty fun. It’s good to be back home. DREAM Motorsport have setup an awesome car for me this weekend. To come back and win that race was awesome.”

Championship leader Will Brown, who had won Sunday morning’s Race Two, concluded the race weekend by being 2nd for the overall round.

“It was overall a good weekend,” Brown said.

“We got a first, fourth and fifth [place finish]. Bit challenging, the boys worked hard at the car but we’ll look forward to the next round.”

Harry Hayek made another podium appearance in Race Three and finished 3rd for the weekend, which capped off a positive weekend for the local New South Welshman after recently returning from a stint in British F4.

“It was a good adrenaline rush,” Hayek said.

“I had a lot of fun. It’s good to be with a good team. I think it’s very important to have the right people around you… I’ve really enjoyed myself this weekend.”

CoolDrive/DREAM Motorsport’s Simon Fallon was fourth in the final race, demonstrating remarkable overtaking manoeuvres across the weekend to finish fifth overall. Fallon’s efforts were justly rewarded by claiming the Burson Auto Parts Rookie of the Round.

“DREAM Motorsport’s been really good to me getting the car ready to go,” Fallon said.

“Great racing between all the boys, especially Nick Rowe in the second race. Bit unfortunate about the qualifying but, oh well, we came back strong.”

Brown remains in command of the championship lead after Sydney Motorsport Park, with a 21 point lead over Rowe with 156 championship points. Rowe amassed 61 points for the weekend after three podium appearances and now sits 2nd with 135 points. Team BRM’s Jordan Love dropped to 3rd in the standings with 125 championship points.

Round Four of the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship next heads to Queensland Raceway as a support event to the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship on July 22–24.
