The FIA University claim “stronger clubs through learning” is made reality in its third ELP edition in May 2014

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) third edition was greeted again by participants as a great personal and professional experience.

The program’s contents and delivery has evolved since the first edition, incorporating ways to keep its high appreciation and value. The ELP took place at the ESADE Business School Campus and was highly rated by attendees. The program is designed to help talented individuals to master new skills and develop new leadership styles, for the FIA believes that by creating outstanding leaders, Automobile Clubs and Sport Associations will be able to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

“This FIA University course was a great way of building on the knowledge, experience and diversity of the FIA family,” said Susan Pikrallidas, the FIA’s Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Tourism. “We believe that by developing leadership skills and providing a broader strategy, innovation and advocacy perspectives, FIA University can help clubs to develop their next generation of leaders.”

The ELP was attended by 19 executives from 14 clubs or sister companies, from 11 countries around the world, and aimed to develop self-awareness to give individuals a greater appreciation of the part they play within their own club. Through the sessions – which were leaded by ELP Director Prof. Dr. Luis Vives of ESADE Business School Spain – they gained a ‘management toolkit’ and considered the particular skills needed to meet the objectives of their organisation.

During the four-and-a-half day course they also considered ideas for hands-on projects to improve their Club’s performance, which will deliver fast results.

The unique structure of the course was praised by participants for it encouraged active net-working among peers and lectures were given by professors from ESADE and experts from the automobile clubs. Experts included Tim Shearman - CEO of CAA Canada, Maria Spetz - then CEO M Sweden, Josep Mateu – CEO of RACC Spain, Hans Hubers - Director Strategy and Innovation ANWB The Netherlands, and Peter Moxon - General Manager Club Operations NZAA New Zealand. All have become keen enthusiasts of the program and enjoyed their own learning through the experience.

Delegates also took part in social events including a visit to the RACC, the city and the Spanish F1 GP at the Catalunya Circuit at the weekend.

Save the date: The next FIA University Emerging Leaders Program in Barcelona will be from 9 to 15 March 2015.
