Theodore Racing is one of the most famous names in Macau Grand Prix history, with the Hong Kong-based team the driving force behind a record eight victories around the 6.2KM street track.

Once a fully-fledged Formula One constructor founded by Teddy Yip, the team returned to action in 2013 under the guidance of his son Teddy Yip Jnr following a 21-year sabbatical.

Theodore since joined forces with multiple championship-winning squad Prema Powerteam, with the partnership resulting in further Macau GP successes for the likes of Alex Lynn and Felix Rosenqvist.

This year, SJM Prema Theodore Racing boasts one of the strongest line-ups on the grid as it looks to claim a first Macau GP title since 2015.

“We believe we’re in good shape to reclaim our title this year with the new FIA Formula 3 car,” said Yip Jnr. “In order to achieve this, we have three of the world’s most talented and exciting rising stars: Marcus Armstrong, Frederik Vesti and Robert Shwartzman.”

Yip Jnr isn’t wrong in his assessment of the team’s driver entries with Shwartzman having charged to the FIA Formula 3 Championship during the regular season in Europe, with his team-mate Marcus Armstrong taking the runners-up laurels.

“It’s great to be back here in Macau representing SJM Prema Theodore Racing,” commented Shwartzman. “I have enjoyed some fantastic results this year and come to Macau as 2019 FIA Formula 3 Champion. The Macau Grand Prix is one of my favourite events in the world and I can’t wait to get out on track. It would be a dream to join some incredible drivers on the previous winners list.”

“I am really excited to be here once again in Macau,” responded Armstrong. “We have been preparing for this race for some time, as it is the jewel in the crown for all drivers trying to reach Formula 1.

“I have had a good season in the FIA Formula 3 championship, finishing as vice-champion overall, and now my aim is to win the Formula 3 race every driver wants to have to their name.”

The third and final seat for the home favourites has gone to inaugural Formula Regional European Champion Frederik Vesti, who replaces regular pilot Jehan Daruvala after the Indian was injured in the build-up to Macau.

Vesti is an able understudy, however, the Dane winning 13 of 24 races this season.

“Macau is the highlight of the season and I am delighted to have been picked to replace Jehan after his injury, we wish him a speedy recovery,” concluded Vesti. “Thank you to SJM Prema Theodore Racing for the opportunity. It has already been a memorable season and a fantastic result here would be the icing on the cake.”

The FIA GT World Cup and FIA F3 World Cup will take place as part of the 66th running of the Macau Grand Prix over the weekend of 14-17 November.
