FIA GT World Cup up and running in Macau

Robin Frijns set the pace in the opening free practice session of the FIA GT World Cup in Macau.

The Dutch driver set a consistent pace throughout the lap in his Audi Sport Team WRT Speedstar machine, and ended up 0.129s ahead of his nearest challenger.

Hear from Frijns below:

The next three drivers in the order each set a fastest overall sector but couldn’t match Frijns across the full 6.12KM distance.

Mercedes man Edoardo Mortara was second quickest with the Swiss racer looking to defend his title here in Macau this weekend.

Christopher Haase underlined the prowess of the Audi R8 LMS by taking third, whilst Augusto Farfus (BMW) and Earl Bamber (Porsche) made it four different manufacturers in the top five finishers.

Laurens Vanthoor followed his Porsche stablemate home in sixth, whilst Maro Engel was next up in the order in his #888 Mercedes.

Dries Vanthoor and Mathieu Jaminet experienced an interesting session with both following eachother on the timesheets and then again into the wall towards the end of the running.

Vanthoor lost control of his Audi through Police Corner – the scene of last year’s dramatic incident – with Jaminet following suit just a few seconds later. Whilst it brought a premature to their respective running, damage to both cars seemed relatively minor.

Hong Kong’s Adderly Fong completed the top ten in his Zun Motorsport Crew Audi.
